Largest Sand Dunes in North America

Our dear friends came to visit us this weekend and as a special treat, introduced us to the Bruneau Sand Dunes that happen to be fairly near here!
The kids DREADED it. "I don't want to climb a sand dune," Sam argued. "It's going to be hot, and a lot of work, and I hate being in the car..."
Anabelle whined as well.

Yet I insisted... and we saw the Snake River and heard about how the river and cooled lava and a bunch of wind and some scientific hypothesis all came together to result in something really cool. (You're just going to have to come and read the explanation yourself.)
What was the word I heard over and over again the whole time we were there and the way home?
AWESOME!
Yep, that summed it up.

Katarina wanted to see how fast she could go all the way down the sand mountain and back up. She was a beautiful sight walking the top of the dune with her hair whipping behind her. Thankfully, we left early enough on the forecasted 100 degree day, that the sand was still cool underneath our feet and the temps had only reached to 80 by the time we left. The kids can't wait to go back on a day Dad can come too to experience the adventure.
