Once upon a time, a stray kitten arrived at our doorstep meowing and rubbing itself against Katarina's leg. We called the Humane Society to come pick up the abandoned kitten and Katarina cried for days, and wrote stories about her even a year later.
Fast forward to this summer. We pull in the driveway, and our dog, who has been known to tree kittens, is allowing a small white kitten to play in the yard with her. I'm in disbelief ... especially when I see the kitten is without a tail.
"Oh my goodness! Our dog ate the poor kitten's tail!!!"
Mike tried to investigate but we didn't want to pick up this poor kitten who looked on the verge of starvation. After hearing it meow all night, I called the vet who said they'd look at her and if necessary call the Humane Society themselves.
The vet kept the kitten overnight to make sure it was healthy and check it out and called us the next morning to tel l us it was part Siamese (Mike has always wanted a Siamese kitten) and part Manx (yay! Sugar didn't eat the tail!) and that it would make an excellent family kitten. They also theorized that the kitten was abandoned and Sugar thought herself to be the kitten's adopted mama.
I didn't want to like the kitten, but it's so freaking cute, and I do love the side benefit of entertainment watching the cat and dog play but also - if a fly or moth get inside they fight over who gets it first! The cat jumps in the air, her arms flailing, and the dog jumps higher until one of them nabs the unwelcomed intruder.Fast forward to this summer.
